Assisted Living Residential Care in New Jersey

New Jersey is home to approximately 8,707,739 residents. New Jersey
residents over the age of 65 make up 13.1% of the total population. This
is just slightly higher than the 12.6% average for the US. There are
currently an estimated 1,137,731 seniors living in New Jersey.

The number of seniors in New Jersey will most certainly continue to grow
over the coming years – as will the need for assisted living, residential care
and long term care options.

As with most states, New Jersey has a very specific definition of what
assisted living is, including eligibility requirements, and the types of
services provided by assisted living facilities.

The State of New Jersey’s Department of Health and Senior Services has a
robust section of their website dedicated to the state’s assisted living
and long term care facilities. Officially, New Jersey uses the term
“Assisted Living Residence” which essentially means that the facility is
licensed by the Department, and provides “apartment-style housing and
congregate dining and to assure that assisted living services are
available when needed, to four or more adult persons unrelated to the
proprietor.” To see the full definition, as well as definitions for other
long term care facilities/programs, please visit the Department’s health
facilities site here.

This page should serve as a starting point for learning about many of
the different assisted living facilities and long term care options
throughout the State of New Jersey.
